Prisovsky Vasyl Arefiyovych

1861-1917

Vasyl Arefiyovych Prisovsky (b. 1861, Kyiv - d. 1917, Kyiv) was a composer, author of patriotic marches, romances, and fantasies.

Biography.
He was born in 1861 in the family of Arefa Ivanovych Prysovsky and Ustynia Savelievna Prysovska (Simonova). On the male side, he belonged to the noble family of Dunin-Prisovsky, many of whose representatives were priests, including the grandfather of the future composer, Ivan Demianovych Prisovsky.

Vasyl Arefiyovych Prisovsky was one of the most popular salon composers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, the author of fantasies, romances, lyrical waltzes, patriotic marches, and many other piano pieces.

He was the conductor and leader of the brass band of the 132nd Bendery Infantry Regiment, which was stationed in Kyiv.

He collaborated with the Leon and Władysław Idzikowski music publishing house in Kyiv.

Among the composer's works are the march "Napoleon", which is dedicated to the victories and defeats of the French commander, the march "Battle of Poltava", and the collection of works for piano "Ukrainian Noise".

He died in 1917.
