Ukrainian opera conductor, composer and teacher of Czech origin. People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1934) (according to other sources - 1931).
Biography.
In 1875 he graduated from the Prague Piano Academy.
From 1878 he worked in the Russian Empire: opera conductor in Smolensk, Kharkiv (1880-1882, 1889), Lviv (1882), Kyiv (1883-1885, 1889-1892), Moscow, Tbilisi, etc.
1894-1937 - Chief Conductor of the Odesa Opera House and lecturer at the Odesa Conservatory (professor since 1919).
In 1926, at the age of 72, Prybik mastered the Ukrainian language for performances.
Works.
As a composer, he is the author of eight one-act operas based on stories by Anton Chekhov, including Nerves, Forgotten, Confession, In the Dark, Failure, a cantata in honor of Alexander Pushkin, the symphony Red October, musical paintings for orchestra Holiday in the Countryside and Ten Songs of the Peoples of the USSR, vocal works, and music theoretical works.
Personal life
Yosyp Pribik's wife was the opera singer Nadiia Milanova (1864-1942 or 1943).
