Mykola Popov (born June 11, 1950) is a Ukrainian composer, conductor and teacher, author of symphonic, chamber and vocal choral music. Member of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine (1992). Honored Artist of Ukraine (1999).
From his biography
He was born on June 11, 1950 in Shchyhy, Kursk region (Russia). Graduated from the Kursk Music College named after G. Sviridov (1966-1970), the Faculty of Choral Conducting of the Ufa State Institute of Arts (1970-1975, class of Professor B. Shestakov), Donetsk Prokofiev Music and Pedagogical Institute at the Faculty of Composition (1983-1987, class of Professor O. Rudiansky).
Since 1979, he has been working as the head of the musical department of the Zaporizhzhia Theater for Young Spectators. Therefore, most of his musical works are music for performances (59 pieces).[1] For the theater, M. Popov creates music for many performances: "The Three Little Pigs, Terem-Teremok, Kitsyn's House, The Fly-Tsk-Tsk (1981), Trouble in the Dairy Kingdom, The Mooch, The Morning Sacrifice, Romeo and Juliet, Thumbelina, and The Forest Tale.
Head of the conducting and choral department of the P.I. Maiboroda Zaporizhzhia Music College. In 2004-2010, he was the artistic director and conductor of the Zaporizhzhia Student Choir.
During this period, the choir and M. Popov became laureates of the International Choral Festival of Sacred Singing in Zaporizhzhia ("Christ is Risen" in 2006, 2007, 2008), the S. Degtyarev and H. Lomakin Chamber Choirs in Belgorod (2007), and the All-Ukrainian Festival of Sacred Songs "From Christmas to Christmas" in Dnipro (2008).
He is the author of music for the television films "I Will Answer" (1982) and "Vasilisa the Beautiful" (1983).
