Podufaliy Vasyl Mykhailovych

1941-2000

Vasyl Mykhailovych Podufalii (May 7, 1941, Zhukiv village, now Ternopil district, Ternopil region, Ukraine - May 20, 2000, the same place) was a Ukrainian teacher, folklorist, local historian, public figure, amateur composer, and artist. Member of the National Union of Local Lore of Ukraine (1991), Shevchenko Scientific Society; honorary member of the All-Ukrainian Society "Prosvita".
Awards.
Bohdan and Levko Lepkyi Brothers Prize (1994).
Honorary citizen of Berezhany (2011, posthumously).
Biography.
Graduated from the Faculty of Philology of the Drohobych Pedagogical Institute (1962, now the University).

He worked as a teacher in schools of Berezhany and Koziv districts.

Initiator and director of the Lepkyi family museum in the family village, where he co-organized the installation of the first monument to Bohdan Lepkyi in Ukraine (1991), and directed the village and student choirs.

His works
Vasyl Podufalyi's folklore recordings and musical compositions were published in the collection "Songs of Ternopil Region" (issue 1, 1989; issue 2, 1993).

He is the author of music to 150 poetic texts and almost 1000 arrangements of folk songs.

He compiled and published more than 20 books, including collections of riflemen's songs: R. Kupchynskyi's "How from Berezhany to Kadra", M. Haivoronskyi's "It will not fade away forever", L. Lepkyi's "Hear, my brother..." (all in 1990) and others, 4 issues of "Insurgent Songs" (1992, 1993, 1995, 1996), songs "Hey, Plast members are traveling" (1992), a collection of songs by L. Lepkyi. Lepkyi's songs "Cranes" (1999), B. Lepkyi's poems "For Easter" and "For Christmas" (1993), L. Lepkyi's literary and musical heritage "Works" (2001, co-editor).

Author of local history articles and paintings.

Honoring the memory
Since 2001, the Berezhany District Council has been holding the annual festival of riflemen's and insurgent songs "Lysonia" named after V. Podufalyi.

In 2005, Bohdan Kusen and Kazymyr Yarema compiled and published the book "Vasyl Podufaliy: Life and Work".

In 2013, employees of the Berezhany Central Library System compiled a bibliographic index "Fate Destined to Live with a Song: Vasyl Podufaliy".
