Volodymyr Yakovlevych Pidhornyi (b. October 4, 1928, Verkhnobohdanivka - d. May 31, 2010, Kharkiv) was a Ukrainian accordionist, composer and teacher; member of the Union of Composers of Ukraine since 1957. Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR since 1987.
Biography.
He was born on October 4, 1928, in the village of Velykobohdanivka (now Shchastia district, Luhansk region, Ukraine). In 1949, he graduated from the Kharkiv Music College (composition class of Oleksandr Zhuk and accordion class); in 1956, he graduated from the Kharkiv Conservatory (composition class of Valentyn Borysov, accordion class of Leonid Horenko).
Since 1949, he was a teacher at the Kharkiv Music School, since 1956 - a lecturer, since 1971 - associate professor, since 1989 - professor at the Kharkiv Institute of Arts.
He died in Kharkiv on May 31, 2010.
Works.
Author of an oratorio, a number of works for symphony orchestra, violin and piano, and many songs. Among his works:
