Plishka Paul

Paul Plishka (28 August 1941, Old Forge, Pennsylvania, USA) is an opera singer (USA).

Biography.
Paul Plishka was born to Ukrainian immigrant parents in Old Forge, Pennsylvania. He studied at Montclair State College and made his debut at the Paterson Opera in 1961.

He first sang the role of the friar in Amilcaré Ponchielli's opera La Gioconda at the Metropolitan Opera in New York in 1967. Since then, he has performed more than 50 roles in 1000 performances: "The Barber of Seville, The Elixir of Love, The Marriage of Figaro, Aida, Otello, Adelia and many others.

Today, he is rightly called the "singer above the singers", and his voice has been heard on the most prestigious stages in the world: Covent Garden, La Scala, the Grand Opera, the Bavarian State Opera, and the San Francisco Opera.

Pavlo Plishka is inducted into the Hall of Fame of Great American Opera Singers at the Academy of Vocal Arts in Philadelphia.

At the time, 33-year-old Dr Pliszka was the head of the children's service at the state children's psychiatric centre. In 1991, Pliszka's son Jeffrey was charged with the murder and rape of Laura Ronning, for which he was acquitted in 2010, and died in 2017. Pliszka's first wife, Judith Ann Pliszka, Jeffrey's mother, died in 2004. Pliszka is currently married to Sharon Thomas, a former director-in-residence at the Metropolitan. Plishka's other son, Paul Jr, also died, according to Pastor Protopresbyter Nestor Koval of St Michael's Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Scranton, Pennsylvania. Plishka's third son, Mykola, died in 2021.
