Pilyutikov Serhiy Yuriyovych

1965

Contemporary Ukrainian composer, director of the International Forum "Music of the Young".

He was born on April 3, 1965 in Uzyn, Kyiv region. In 1987 he graduated from the History Department of Kharkiv State University. In 1989 he began taking composition lessons with O. Shchetynsky, and later continued his studies in his class at the Kharkiv Institute of Arts (graduated in 1995). From 1985 to 1991, he taught history at a secondary school. From 1991 to 1998, he taught composition at a children's music school in Kharkiv. Since 1999 he has been living and working in Kyiv. In addition to composing, he teaches composition and electro-acoustic music at a music school and lyceum.

In 1992, he won first prize at the All-Ukrainian Composition Competition Gradus ad Parnassum in Kyiv. In 1993, he became a finalist at the Gaudeamus International Competition for Young Composers in Holland with his composition Voices of Rivers for chamber ensemble (only 9 of the 700 submitted works were selected for the final). This work was first performed at a concert by the Xenakis Ensemble in Amsterdam at the Gaudeamus Music Week festival. He was awarded a diploma at the international saxophone competition "Selmer-Paris in Ukraine" for the best work by a Ukrainian composer for saxophone (2000). Pilyutikov's works were performed at the international festivals "Days of New Music" in Zurich (1998), "Kyiv in May" (1999), "Two Days and Two Nights of New Music" in Odesa (1999, 2001), the International Festival of Contemporary Music "Contrasts" in Lviv (1997), the International Forum of Young Music in Kyiv (1993, 1994, 1998), in the concert series "New Music in Kharkiv" (1996), as well as at concerts in Switzerland, Poland and Ukraine. Among his performers are the National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine, the Symphony Orchestra of the National Philharmonic of Ukraine, the Zurich New Music Ensemble, the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra "ARCHI", the French saxophonist M. Siffer. Siffer, the Kyiv Saxophone Quartet, the Stockholm Saxophone Quartet, soloists of the Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, Ukrainian ensembles Cluster (Lviv), Ricochet (Kyiv), Swiss pianist D. Blum, Avalon Trio (Switzerland).

Since 1999, he has been the artistic director of the New Music Ensemble of the Kyiv Organization of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine "Ricochet", since 2000 - the musical director of the International Forum of Young People (Kyiv). Since 2004 - Secretary of the Board of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine.

S. Pilyutikov's compositional style was formed under the influence of Edison Denisov, Yanis Xenakis, Luigi Nono, and Giaccinto Shelce. From time to time he turns to non-classical genres, composing music for film and television. Several of his songs were included in the album "Twice Born" with S. Zazhytko.
