Demian Kuzmych Pelekhaty (* 1 July 1926, Lviv - † 13 February 1994, Lviv) was a Ukrainian conductor, teacher, People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR in 1972, holder of the Order of the Badge of Honour.
Brief biography
The son of K. M. Pelekhatyi.
Graduated from the Lviv Conservatory, in 1950 - the conducting faculty, in 1951 - the composition faculty. In 1952-1957, 1966-1971 he was its teacher.
Since 1951, he has been a conductor, and in 1964-1987, he was the chief conductor of the Lviv Regional Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.
He conducted many works by Ukrainian composers of the Soviet era, including S. Liudkevych and R. Simovych, for the first time.
His conducting repertoire included symphonies by D. Shostakovich, works by S. Prokofiev, R. Shchedrin, T. Khrennikov, and D. Kabalevsky. He stood at the origins of the conducting section founded in 1969 - the future Department of Orchestral Conducting, among the founders were professors Isidor Ilyich Vymer, Yuriy Oleksiyovych Lutsiv, and Honoured Artist of the Ukrainian SSR Semen Mykhailovych Arbit.
He is buried at Lychakiv Cemetery, field 67.
