Pashin Leonid Mykolayovych

1925-2004

Leonid Pashyn (born 30 March 1925 - died 7 August 2004) was a Ukrainian conductor, Honoured Artist of Ukraine.
Biography
A veteran of the war.

In 1951, he founded the Desna Choir at the primary wool processing factory and led it for 25 years. Under his leadership, the choir received the title of "Honoured People's Choir".

He taught at the L. Revutskyi Chernihiv Music College.

Teacher of Vasyl Nechepa - kobzar, lyre player, folk singer, winner of the Taras Shevchenko State Prize, People's Artist of Ukraine.

Public activity
He was a member of the All-Ukrainian Choral Society named after M. Leontovych.

Memory
On 1 September, 2011, in Chernihiv, on Shchorsa Street, 2, the Secretary of the Chernihiv City Council Oleh Sheremet and the winner of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine, People's Artist of Ukraine Vasyl Nechepa unveiled the memorial plaque to Leonid Pashyn. The author of the plaque is sculptor, Honoured Artist of Ukraine, Doctor of Art History, Professor Mykhailo Belen.

According to the Order of the Mayor of Chernihiv of 19 February 2016 No. 54-r "On renaming the streets of the city", Oleksandr Bespalov Street (Hero of the Soviet Union) was renamed Leonid Pashyn Street. Until 2007, the street in the Stara Podusivka neighbourhood was called Sportyvny Lane.
