Palytsyn Ivan Osipovych

Ivan Osipovych Palytsyn (real name: Palice; Czech. Jan Palice; b. 17 November 1865, Vlíněves - d. 3 June 1931, Sverdlovsk) was a Russian and Ukrainian conductor of Czech origin, teacher; Honoured Artist of the RSFSR since 1925, Hero of Labour since 1925.
He was born on 17 November 1865 in the village of Vlíněves (now the Melník District, Czech Republic). He graduated from the Kyiv Music College (violin class of Otakar Shevchyk). In 1890, he was one of the founders of the Saratov Opera Theatre. Since 1901 he has been living in Kyiv. He taught opera at the Kyiv Music School. In 1901-1906, he was the chief conductor of the newly built Kyiv Opera House, where in 1903 he staged Mykola Lysenko's opera "Christmas Eve". Since 1906, he has been conductor of the Zimin Opera House in Moscow[1]. He also worked as a conductor in St. Petersburg, Odesa, Kazan, and Tiflis. In 1917-1923, he was an opera and symphony conductor in Kyiv. At the same time, he taught at the Kyiv Conservatory[1]. In 1923-1924, he was the chief conductor of the Kharkiv Opera House. From 1924 he worked at the Sverdlovsk Opera and Ballet Theatre.

He died in Sverdlovsk on 3 June 1931. He was buried in Yekaterinburg at the Shirokorechenskoye Cemetery.
