Ogrenych Mykola Leonidovych

Mykola Leonidovych Ohrenych (b. 8 December 1937 - d. 12 April 2000) was a Ukrainian opera singer (tenor), soloist of the Odesa Opera and Ballet Theatre, professor, rector of the Odesa Conservatory, Corresponding Member of the Academy of Arts of Ukraine (1997, Honoured Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1971), People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1975), Honorary Citizen of Odesa (1998). Diploma winner of the All-Union Glinka Vocal Competition (1965), laureate of the Verviers International Vocal Competition (7th prize, 1969), laureate of the Tchaikovsky International Competition (1st prize, 1970).

Biography
Mykola Ohrenych was born on 8 December 1937 in the village of Ivanivka, Odesa region, into a large rural family.

In 1964, he graduated from the Odesa Music College. From 1967 to 1969, Mykola Ohrenych was an intern at the La Scala Theatre in Milan.

In 1968, he graduated from the Odesa State Conservatory with a degree in solo singing, class of Professor Olha Blahovydova.

In 1970, he won the first prize at the All-Union Competition named after M.I. Glinka.

On 8 December 1998, Mykola Ohrenych was awarded the title of Honorary Citizen of Odesa.
