Nosach Pavlo Varlamovych

1890-1966

Pavlo Varlamovych Nosach (b. 22 September 1890, Bovkun village, Tarashchany district, Kyiv region - d. 20 October 1966, Kyiv) was a kobzar, composer, bandura player, and songwriter.

He lost his sight during the First World War. In 1928, he studied to play with O. Markevych. He participated in the first meeting of kobzars (1939). Pavlo Nosach became famous for the following compositions:

Oh, in the city of Petrograd
Shchors gathered a detachment of zealots (1936, first published in the journal "Ukrainian Folklore", 1938, book II)
The grape blossoms by itself
Oh, Ukraine cried
Oh, my girl
Oh, on the hill, on the hill they started to roar
Oh, how early, how early
We have cleared Ukraine of dirt
Oh, we sowed the girl
Fog in the ravine, fog in the ravine
It wasn't the oaks that made the noise
Oh, the hens have heard it
Don't be sad, my mum
The wind has dispersed the cloud
Go to sleep, Taras.
Hey, the eagles are flocking
The cloud is floating away
Thinking about Shevchenko.
