Ukrainian conductor of Soviet times, composer, arranger. People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1968).
Biography.
He was born in Novoye Seslavino, Tambov Province, Russia. In 1924, he moved with his family to the city of Kozlov (now Michurinsk). At school, he organized an orchestra with which he performed at concerts of visiting artists. He worked in cinema orchestras and amateur clubs.
He graduated from the Tambov Music School with a degree in piano (1932), then from the Moscow State Conservatory (1939).
Since 1939, he has been a concertmaster of the newly created ensemble of the Kyiv Military District, then a conductor. During the German-Soviet War, he performed for soldiers more than 2000 times. In 1945-1949, he held the position of musical and artistic director of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Northern Group of Soviet Troops in Poland.
For 25 years, from 1949 to 1972, he was the artistic director of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Kyiv Military District. Since 1973, he has been an employee of the Music Society of the Ukrainian SSR.
He is the author of songs about the army, Yuri Gagarin, arrangements and translations of folk songs ("Glory of the Army", "Family of Heroes", etc.).
Awards
He was awarded the Order of the Red Star, medals "For Military Merit", "For Victory over Germany", and the Polish Order of the Silver Cross.
