Moshyk Mykola Hryhorovych

1941-2021

Ukrainian bandura player, composer, music teacher. Father of the writer Maksym Moshyk.

Biography.

He studied in 1962-1964 in the studio at the State Bandura Chapel (now the National Honored Bandura Chapel of Ukraine named after Heorhii Maiboroda) (teacher P. Ivanov, 1968-1969), at the Drohobych Music College (teacher O. Kirian-Vereshchynskyi).

In 1971 he graduated from the Dniprodzerzhynsk Music College (L. Prodaiko) and in 1976 from the Kyiv Conservatory (A. Bobyr).

He worked in the Chernihiv and Kirovohrad Philharmonic, the Kyiv Orchestra of Folk Instruments, and the Uman Music College.

In 1977, he became a teacher at the Sumy Music College, and since 1992 - at the Sumy Pedagogical Institute.

In 1992, he opened a bandura class at the Faculty of Music and Pedagogy of the A. S. Makarenko Sumy State Pedagogical Institute.

He died on May 26, 2021 in Sumy from complications of coronavirus.
Repertoire

He performed works from the repertoire of Yevhen Adamtsevych and Yegor Movchan, in particular to the words of P. Chubynskyi ("Your kobza plays gloriously"), D. Pavlychko ("Prayer"), O. Yushchenko ("Cossack song"), and works of Ukrainian and world classics arranged for bandura.

He is the author of dumas: "The Battle of Konotop", "About Hlukhiv", "About the Holodomor" in co-authorship. Author of songs to the lyrics of Taras Shevchenko, P. Kulish, D. Bilous, O. Oles, L. Kostenko, B. Oliynyk, and folklore recordings: "Kalnyshevsky's Prayer", "The Legend of the Horseman", "Oh, When I Come to the Valley", etc.

He continues the kobza traditions of his teachers and spiritual mentors Y. Adamtsevych, Y. Movchan, A. Bobyr, A. Volykivsky, and S. Shkurat.

Public activity

Head of the Sumy Regional Branch of the National Union of Kobzars of Ukraine, regional kobzar-centurion of the Sumy Regional Cossack Society.

He has held more than 3 thousand concerts, most of which are charity events.
