Mikhailov Alexander Ivanovich

Oleksandr Mykhailov was a Ukrainian Soviet actor known for his performances at the Kyiv Operetta Theatre (1955-1982). Honoured Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1969).

General information
The future leading actor of the Kyiv Operetta Theatre, Oleksandr Ivanovych Mykhailov, studied at the Kharkiv Suvorov School in Chuhuiv. The school, established in 1943, was transferred to Kyiv in 1947. It is known that the first graduation took place in 1948.

Young Sergeant Mykhailov worked at the Kyiv Suvorov School, where he led a group of soloists. His students fondly remembered their teacher for his simplicity, cheerfulness and fairness.

Later he entered the Kyiv Conservatory, and in 1955 he became an actor at the Kyiv Operetta Theatre, where a whole galaxy of talented young actors began their careers, eventually becoming recognised masters of the stage: D. Shevtsov, K. Mamykina, V. Borysenko, and others.

Oleksandr Mykhailov was one of the theatre's leading soloists. The legendary singer I. S. Kozlovsky praised his performing skills: "His baritone has no crying outbursts, no 'air holes'. Mikhailov's singing leaves the impression of completeness and correctness of the musical phrase. He has a beautiful timbre of voice that is even in the entire 'working' range".

O. Mykhailov's creative activity at the Kyiv Operetta Theatre lasted until 1982.

Oleksandr Mykhailov is also known as a performer of popular songs on military themes. In 1949, he was awarded a diploma at the World Youth Festival in Budapest. He often performed at the Kyiv Officers' House and in military garrisons. At one time, he was entrusted with the task of leading a brigade of Kyiv artists who performed for the military of the Soviet Army Group in Germany. As a singer, he gave over a hundred concerts.
