Matyukhin Valery Alexandrovich

1949-2023

Valeriy Matyukhin (12 March 1949, Kharkiv) is a Ukrainian conductor, pianist, laureate of the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine (2006), People's Artist of Ukraine (2004), Honoured Artist of Ukraine (1987), winner of the Republican M. Ostrovsky Prize (1986), director and artistic director of the National Ensemble of Soloists "Kyiv Camerata".

Biography.
In 1973 he graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory (class of O. Kholodna). From 1975-1980 he worked in the Kyiv Chamber Orchestra as a pianist and harpsichordist. From 1980-1991 he was a soloist of the Kyiv Philharmonic. In 1977, at the Union of Composers of Ukraine, he created the Chamber Music Ensemble, which since 1989 has been known as the Kyiv Camerata Soloists Ensemble. In 2000, the ensemble was awarded the status of National.

In 2017, he became a member of the organising committee and honorary chairman of the jury of the All-Ukrainian Open Music Olympiad "Voice of the Country".

Since 2018, he has been a member of the jury of the Prokofiev All-Ukrainian Open Piano Competition.

He has conducted a large number of premiere performances of works by Ukrainian contemporary composers: Z. Almashi, Y. Vereshchagin, H. Havrylets, Y. Gomelska, V. Hubarenko, V. Zahortsev, S. Zazhytko, V. Zubytskyi, Y. Ishchenko, I. Karabyts, O. Kiva, I. Kyrylina, O. Levkovych, S. Pilyutikov, V. Polyova, V. Silvestrov, M. Skoryk, Y. Stankovych, K. Tsepkolenko, I. Shcherbakov, and others.
