Malchevsky Leonid Antonovich

Malchevskyi Leonid Antonovych (25 December 1923, Sarnivka, Volynska Gubernia) was a music teacher, clarinetist, conductor, director of the Fanfare children's brass band and a participant of the Second World War.

Biography
Leonid Malchevskyi was born on the night of 24-25 December 1923 in the village of Sarnivka (now Zhytomyr district, Zhytomyr region) in the family of a musician. He received his primary musical education in his father's orchestra. In 1934, first his father and then the whole family moved to Gostomel, where they lived during the Second World War. In 1951, he graduated from the Kyiv Music School, and in 1968 from the M. Gorky State Pedagogical University, specialising as a clarinetist and conductor of brass bands. He studied at the Kyiv Conservatory and attended a workshop for children's orchestra directors at the Saratov one-year courses organised by the Ministry of Defence; in 1970-1980, he taught at Kyiv art schools No. 1, 2, 3.

After his retirement in 1985, he moved to Hostomel and took over from his father as the director of the local orchestra. In the Pryirpin region, Leonid Malchevskyi worked at the Bucha boarding school, was the director of the brass band of the Mriya teenage club at the trade union committee of the Gostomel glass factory, and taught classes at the Irpin music school. Since 1995, he headed the Fanfare Orchestra of the Centre for Children and Youth Creativity in Irpin. The professional activity of L.A. Malchevskyi has received numerous commendations, certificates and awards, the most important of which are the titles of Excellence in Education, Honorary Citizen of Gostomel, Order of the Cavalier of the Golden Cross with a Bow, Order and Certificate of Merit for the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Medal of the Ministry of Defence for his significant contribution to the recruitment of military orchestras of Ukraine.
