Maftuliak Mykhailo Vasylovych - (* September 4, 1934, Hvozdoutsi village, Khotyn district, Bessarabia, now Hvizdovtsi village, Sokyryany district, Chernivtsi region). -+ March 4, 2018, Sokyryany, buried in Hvozdovtsi village) - Ukrainian composer, choral conductor, teacher. Member of the All-Ukrainian Music Union, member of the Association of Choral Conductors. Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine (1985).
Mykhailo Maftulyak was born on September 4, 1934 in the village of Hvizdivtsi, now Sokyryany district, Chernivtsi region, into a peasant family. He searched for his place in life for a long time. He worked in a mine (on the surface), on a collective farm, in a shoe shop, and at a sawmill. He served in the Soviet Army. He studied at the creative studio at the Chernivtsi Ukrainian Music and Drama Theater (now the Olha Kobylianska Academic Theater) together with the future actor, screenwriter, and director, winner of the Taras Shevchenko State Prize of Ukraine, Ivan Mykolaichuk. In 1968, he graduated from the Chernivtsi Music College. And in 1973, he graduated from the Faculty of Music and Pedagogy of the Ivano-Frankivsk Pedagogical Institute named after V. Stefanyk.
He headed a village club in his native Hvizdivtsi, and later was invited to the position of artistic director of the Sokyryany District House of Culture, where his songs spread their wings, and collaborated with amateur composer Volodymyr Davydenko. Mykhailo Vasylovych was the founder and longtime director and conductor of the Melodiya folk women's vocal ensemble and the Hrono folk amateur chamber choir.
In January 1965. Mykhailo Maftuliak was appointed head of the cultural department of the district executive committee. From 1965 to 2010, he was the director of the Sokyryany Children's Music School.
He died on March 04, 2018. He was buried in his native village of Hvizdivka.
The music school, which he headed for 45 years, now bears his name (M. Maftuliak Sokyryanska Music School).

The artist's songs "Krasunya Smerichka", "Mama's Tear", "You and I", "My Land", "Peers", "Wedding", "Veterans" became popular... He also records and arranges folk songs. The composer was awarded the title of honorary citizen of his native village and the town of Sokyryany.
