Lyzogub Oleksandr Ivanovych

1790-1839

Oleksandr Ivanovych Lyzohub (*1790 - †1839) was a major general, a participant in the Napoleonic Wars; pianist and composer.

He came from a Cossack family of officers in the Chernihiv and Poltava regions. One of the founders of Ukrainian piano music. The son of Ivan Lyzohub. He had brothers Andriy and Vasyl.
His works for the piano include nocturnes, mazurkas, variations on folk songs ("Oh, in the field there is a well," "I had a woman," "Oh, you, girl," "Oh, don't go, Hrytsia"); romances - "Death in a foreign land" (lyrics by O. Polonynsky, published in 1855) and others.
