Lopan Ivan Pavlovich

1919-1996

Ukrainian Soviet military conductor and educator; lieutenant colonel.

Biography.

He was born on September 27, 1919, in the village of Staryi Sanzhary (now Poltava district, Poltava region, Ukraine). In 1940, he graduated from the Poltava Music College (flute and conducting classes). In 1940-1941, he headed a music school in Dubno, Rivne region. From 1941, he participated in the German-Soviet war.

In 1947, he graduated from the military faculty of the Moscow Conservatory (French horn class of O. Serostanov, S. Leonov, conducting - D. Svechkov). In 1947-1952 he was a conductor of military bands; in 1952-1955 he was a course director and teacher at the Odesa School of Military Music Education; in 1955-1960 he was a conductor of the Odesa Military District, in 1960-1968 he was the head of the orchestra of the district's headquarters; In 1968-1969, he was a member of the orchestra of the Armored Troops Academy in Moscow; in 1969-1970, he was a member of the orchestral service of the Central Asian Military District; since 1972, he has been conducting the folk brass band in Kaliningrad, Moscow Oblast. He died in Odesa on October 11, 1996.
Awards

He was awarded:
Order of the Red Star (December 30, 1956), Order of the Patriotic War, II class (April 6, 1985);
medals "For the Defense of Stalingrad" (December 22, 1942), "For Victory over Germany" (May 9, 1945), "For Military Merit" (August 21, 1953);
Honored Artist of the Ukrainian SSR since 1964.
