Levytskyi Fedir Semenovych

1830-1890

Fedir Semenovych Levytskyi (b. c. 1830, Stebliv - d. 1890, Pyatihorsk) was a Ukrainian choral conductor, singer, composer, and teacher.
He was born around 1830 in the village of Stebliv (now an urban-type settlement in the Zvenyhorod district of Cherkasy region, Ukraine). He received his musical education at the Court Singing Chapel and Conservatory in St. Petersburg.

He worked as a singing teacher at the Kyiv Theological Academy and as a regent of St. Michael's Golden-Domed Monastery. He died in 1890 in Pyatigorsk.

Creative work.
He worked on harmonizations of ancient Ukrainian chants. He wrote several original church choral works, including "Liturgy". He is the author of the textbook "Fundamentals of Church Singing" and methodological recommendations for studying church singing.
