Ukrainian bandura player and public figure.
Biographical information
Modest Levytskyi was born in France. Between 1925 and 1927, his parents sent him to study in Ukrainian at the Ukrainian Gymnasium in Prague. In Prague, he completed pedagogical courses at the Mykhailo Drahomanov Ukrainian Higher Pedagogical Institute (no later than 1933). He took an active part in Ukrainian cultural life in Prague. He studied bandura with Vasyl Yemets.
After completing the course, he taught at gymnasiums in Kholm and Lutsk, where he founded a bandura band. With the arrival of Soviet troops, he moved to France.
