Leontovych Theodore Ivanovich

1812-1886

Theodor (Fedir, Bohdan) Ivanovych Leontovych (pseudonym - Bohdan L-ch; 1812, Shchutkiv village, Lubachiv district, Galicia (now Poland) - 30 November 1886, Novosilka village, now Chortkiv district, Ternopil region) - Ukrainian pianist, writer, composer, music critic, public and political figure. Father of Denys Leontovych.
He graduated from the Law Faculty of Lviv University. After the founding of the Main Ruthenian Council in 1848, he was elected one of its two secretaries (the other was Mykhailo Malynovskyi).

He worked in the cities of Buchach, Lviv, and Ternopil. Co-founder of Zoria Halytska, the first newspaper of Galician Ukrainians (1848), editor of Osnova (1870-1871, both in Lviv).

Works.
Author of music reviews, popular musical works, including the song "Peace to You, Brothers" based on the words of Ivan Hushalevych, which was performed as a national anthem in Galicia for some time.

In his article "The Seventh Anniversary of Taras Shevchenko's Death in Lviv" (1868), he first analysed the musical works of Mykhailo Verbytskyi and Mykola Lysenko.
