Lenyo Ivan Mykolayovych

1971

Ukrainian musician, accordionist, one of the leaders of the folk-rock band Kozak System (until 2012, a member of the band Haydamaky). His mother is Tetiana Lenio.

Born on August 11, 1971 in the town of Monastyryska, Ternopil region. The family has Ukrainian (Lemko), Gypsy and Polish roots.

His parents were immigrants from the village of Krynytsia, in what is now Poland, and suffered during the deportation of Ukrainians from Poland to the Ukrainian SSR. According to Ivan, his biological grandfather was a fellow soldier of Stepan Bandera.

He graduated from a music school, the Porfirii Demutskyi Uman Music College, and the Voronezh Conservatory (Russia). He had to go so far because in Ukraine, which was then part of the Soviet Union, there was not a single accordion class, but only an accordion made of hand harmonics.

He was recognized as the best at the Kyiv Conservatory entrance exam for postgraduate studies among 21 participants.

Hobbies: traveling, sports, Maestro football club, cycling, motorcycling on his faithful iron horse, a Suzuki DRZ 400, swimming, and tourism.

With the beginning of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022, he joined the territorial defense of Kyiv.
