Latsanych Igor Vasilyevich

1935-2003

Ihor Latsanych (b. 11 July 1935, Velykyi Bereznyi village, Zakarpattia region - d. 2003, Lviv) was a Ukrainian conductor and musician. People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1979) and the Republic of Tatarstan.
He graduated from the Lviv Conservatory.

In 1970-1975, he was the chief conductor of the Donetsk State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre named after A. Solovianenko.

He conducted the following performances: "Yaroslav the Wise by J. Maitus, Ten Days that Shook the World by M. Karminsky, Tannhäuser by R. Wagner, Gioconda by A. Ponchielli.

In 1975-1994, he worked at the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theatre, and for almost twenty years he was the chief conductor.

Creative work
His repertoire included more than 100 operas, ballets, and operettas. Thanks to him, Lviv residents saw Gioconda by A. Ponchielli and Tannhäuser by R. Wagner, War and Peace by S. Prokofiev and The Nutcracker by P. Tchaikovsky, The Ballad of the Deer by B. Yanivsky and The Fiery Angel by V. Hubarenko, and Stolen Happiness by Y. Maitus.

In 1994, he responded to an invitation from the Kazan Opera and Ballet Theatre, where he worked as the chief conductor. He spent the last years of his life in Lviv.

He was buried on the 69th field of Lychakiv Cemetery.
