In the 1860s, Wynkent Kwiatkowski conducted the orchestra of the noble theatre in Volyn; he composed music for the plays Marusia, Bylashchyna, and other works that were in the repertoire of the Ukrainian Galician theatre of the time.
On 3 March 1864, the Ruska Besida Society opened in Lviv with the performance of Marusia (by Hryhorii Kvitka-Osnovianenko), adapted by S. Golembiowski, with music by V. Kwiatkowski. O. Bachynskyi conducted, T. Bachynska played the role of Marusya.
