Borys Isakovych Kushnir (1948, Kyiv) is a Ukrainian and Austrian violinist and music teacher.
Biography.
Borys Kushnir was born into a family of professional musicians. His father was the first concertmaster of the Ukrainian Radio and Television and a very famous violinist, and his mother was a violinist at the Young Spectator Theatre.
He graduated from the Moscow Conservatoire (he studied in 1966-1972 in the class of Boris Belenkyi).
In 1981, he moved to Vienna with his family - his violinist wife and five-year-old son. He is currently a citizen of Austria.
In 1984 he became a professor at the Vienna Conservatory, since 1999 he has been teaching at the University of Graz, and regularly conducts masterclasses. He is a jury member of numerous international music competitions. Among his students are Julian Reichlin, Mykola Znaider, and Lidia Baych.
For his services to music, the National Bank of Austria awarded Kushnir the right to play the Stradivarius violin.
