Oleg Kurochkin was born in Yevpatoria into a family of musicians. He took his first violin lessons at the age of 5. Since 2006, he has studied at the Mykola Lysenko Kyiv Secondary Specialised Music School, in the class of Yaroslava Rivnyak. In 2012, he continued his studies at the Tchaikovsky National Music Academy of Ukraine.
Since 2014, he has been studying at the Robert Schumann Hochschule für Musik in Düsseldorf, class of Ida Biehler. In 2017, he received a Solo Master's degree at the Folkwang Universität der Künste (Essen, Germany) in the class of Boris Garlytskyi.
Oleh is a winner of many national and international competitions, including the Yevhen Koka International Competition, the Yevhen Stankovych International Competition, the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Chamber Ensemble Competition and others. In 2018, Oleh became a finalist and winner of the Guillaume Prize at the Eugène Izai International Violin Competition in Belgium.
Oleh has received a scholarship from the President of Ukraine, a scholarship from the German State, a DAAD-Preis, scholarships from the Lions Club Foundation, the Villa Musica Foundation, the Menukhin Foundation, and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie. He receives grant support from the VERE MUSIC FUND.
As a soloist, he has performed in the halls of Belgium, Bulgaria, France, Italy, Moldova, Germany, Hungary, Ukraine, France and the Czech Republic. As a guest concertmaster, he toured with the Klassische Philharmonie Bonn under Heribert Beissel and the Sofia Philharmoniker under Jukka-Pekka Saraste.
The musician was an active member of the Staatskapelle Berlin Academy and the Deutsche Staatsoper Orchestra under Daniel Barenboim.
Since 2020, Oleg Kurochkin has been a member of the famous Berliner Philharmoniker Orchestra and a member of the Karajan Akademie.
Oleh plays a Pietro Guarneri "ex-Schubert" violin (1702, Mantua) from the collection of the Villa Musica Foundation.
