Kucherovsky Volodymyr Volodymyrovych

1928-1991

Ukrainian choirmaster, conductor, composer, and teacher.

Biography.

He was born on November 1, 1928 in the village of Novokonstantynivka in the present-day Novobuh district of Mykolaiv region.

He graduated from school in the village of Kovalivka, Mykolaiv district.

At the Kyiv Music School, he received a musical education in music-theoretical and choral disciplines (teacher Ivan Sitko).

During 1948-1950, he served in the Soviet Army.

Since 1950, he worked as an artistic director of a number of choirs of the Shyrokolaniv District House of Culture.

In 1959-1966, he headed the Voznesensk Children's Music School and directed the city choir.

In 1970, he graduated from the Odesa Nezhdanova Conservatory, conducting class (teacher N. Astafieva).

In 1966-1989, he was the director of the Mykolaiv Music School.

Since 1972, he has been the director of the choir "Solar Current", Mykolaiv Regional Branch of the Music Society of Ukraine. Together with the choir, he participated in the first and second All-Ukrainian festivals of artistic creativity; he was awarded a diploma and a gold medal. In 1973, the choir was awarded the title of "People's Choir".

The choir performed concerts in many cities of the USSR and abroad, including Debrecen, Kyiv, Odesa, Riga, Kherson, and others; they performed Ukrainian and world classics, including works by Mykola Lysenko, Mykola Leontovych, Borys Liatoshynskyi, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Giuseppe Verdi, Georgy Sviridov, and others.

He took an active public position, and for many years was the chairman of the board of the Mykolaiv branch of the Music Society.

In 1989 he retired and continued to work as a teacher at the music school.

He died on September 23, 1991 in Mykolaiv.
Scientific, pedagogical and creative activity

He is the author of more than 20 reviews and articles, a number of methodological works, including:

"Issues of intonation, comprehensive training and education of a choral conductor",
"Vocal and choral exercises for children's choir",
"Forms and Methods of Working with the Choir,
"Pedagogical tact of the conductor",
"Language and Etiquette".

He has written musical works:

choral poem "Prometheus" (based on the words of John Byron),
miniature "Swim, Swim, Swan" (based on the words of Taras Shevchenko),
about 20 arrangements of Ukrainian folk songs, including
"Oh, there are three poplars in the field"
"The Dnipro roars and groans"
original songs,
arrangements of works by other composers, in particular
"Blue Gold" by Ihor Shamo, "Ballad of a Soldier" by Vasyl Solovyov-Sedyi.

Awards.

Order of Friendship of Peoples (1981)
Honorary Diploma of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Ukrainian SSR.
Honorary title "Honored Worker of Culture of the Ukrainian SSR" (1986).
