Canadian classical pianist, singer, author and composer of songs in the genre of rock'n'roll and pop, of Ukrainian-Scottish-Indian origin.
Biography
She was born in a family of ethnic Ukrainians, studied music from childhood, played in amateur orchestras of the Ukrainian community, attended the Winnipeg private school for girls "Balmoral Hall" (English: Balmoral Hall) and studied at the University of Winnipeg (English: University of Winnipeg), where she determined and musical and dramatic abilities.
In December 1999, she married Rein Maida, the singer of the band "Our Lady Peace". In January 2004, they had a son, Rovan; the second son Luke John was born in June 2005.
Musical creativity
The singer's first album "Under These Rocks and Stones" was released in Canada in 1996 to critical acclaim, and at the beginning of 1997 it was heard for the first time in the United States: more than 100,000 copies were sold in the American market thanks to the very popular hit "God Made Me" (English "God Made Me") - but in Canada the same album enjoyed even greater success: it was recognized twice as "platinum" and sold more than 200,000 copies. Subsequently, her four music videos were shot, some of which could be seen on the popular music channel MuchMusic: "God Created Me", "Believer" and "Wayne" were also broadcast in Canada - but it was the song "Surrounded" from this album that became her most popular hit in Canada. This lucky year, Chantal won the Juno Award, where she was nominated as "the best new artist of the year."
In 1998, Kreviazyuk topped the charts with the title song "Leaving on a Jet Plane" from the soundtrack to the blockbuster movie "Armageddon".
In 1999, she recorded the soundtrack for the TV series "Dawson's Creek" and performed the title song "In My Life" by the Beatles for the TV drama "Providence". . "Providence"). Also sang the title song for Randy Newman's track "Feels Like Home", a song that became a radio hit in Canada.
Later in the same year, the singer released a second CD, "Colour Moving and Still", the music for which was composed by her husband Rain Maida, the soloist of the group "Our Lady Peace". The song of this album "Before You" (English: "Before You") became not only a super hit in Canada, but also at the next "Juno" competition: the album was also appreciated as "the best album of the year", and Chantel - as "the best artist of the year".
"In This Life" (eng. "In This Life") is a fiery 2002 album, from which the song "What If It All Means Something" (eng. "What If It All Means Something") again became a hit. Chantel performed this song on the popular "Tonight Show" ("The Tonight Show"); this song also sounded in the movie "Saved!" (English "Saved!").
Two of her new songs: "These Days" ("These Days") and "I Want You to Know" ("I Want You to Know"), composed and performed by Chantal, were again featured in the 2005 film " The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants" ("The Sisterhood Of The Traveling Pants"); in 2006, her song "It's All About a Kiss" was featured in the movie "Just My Luck".
Together with her husband, in August 2005, Shantel Kreviazyuk wrote the fourth album in her home studio, which was released at the end of August 2006 under the name "Ghost Stories".
