Biography
In 1940 he graduated from the school № 133 in Kharkiv. Kharkiv, entered the Kharkiv Music College (as a pianist), from the second year in May 1941 he was drafted into the army (served until 1947). He participated in the Second World War (in different periods of the war he was a rifleman, tanker, medic, signalman, and senior officer of the music platoon of the Poltava Tank School). After his demobilization in 1947, he resumed music lessons.
In 1952, he graduated from the historical and theoretical faculty of the Kharkiv Conservatory, majoring in music theory under Professor M. D. Tits.
Since 1952, he has been teaching at the Kharkiv Conservatory (later transformed into the Institute of Arts, now the I. P. Kotliarevskyi University of Arts). In 1961-1962 he was dean, from 1966 associate professor, from 1970-1986 head of the Department of Music Theory, from 1992 professor.
1963 - Candidate of Arts. Thesis: "Polyphony of A. Shtogarenko".
Since 1964 - member of the Union of Composers of the USSR.
1989 - Doctor of Arts. Dissertation: "Harmonic intonation".
In 2004-2006 - Chairman of the Specialized Academic Council for the Defense of Dissertations at the I. P. Kotliarevsky Kharkiv University of Arts.

Family.
Grandfather - Petro Kravtsov, doctor, Honored Worker of Science and Arts of Ukraine.
Grandmother - Varvara Apollonivna Kravtsova, pianist, student of Mykola Rubinstein.
His father, Serhii Kravtsov (1901-1938), was an associate professor at Kharkiv University, taught photochemistry, and was a famous photographer. He became a victim of Stalinist repression and was shot in 1938.
His mother was Daria Prokopivna Kravtsova (1899-1989).
Wife - Kira Petrivna Kravtsova (1924-2012) - civil engineer, daughter of the famous Kharkiv gynecologist Petro Petrovych Dobroselskyi and pianist.
Her son, Serhii Tarasovych Kravtsov (1948), is an outstanding athlete, multiple world record holder, and physicist. He lives and works in Germany.
Daughter - Marina Tarasivna Dmitrieva (1953) - pianist.
