Kossak Vasyl Andriyovych

1886-1932

Ukrainian actor, singer (tenor) and director. Brother of the composer, conductor and teacher Mykhailo Kossak and actresses and singers Kateryna Rubchakova and Maria Kostiv-Kossakivna, actress Antonina Dyakova. Husband of actress Iryna Kossak.

Biography.

He studied at the teacher's seminary in Chortkiv and at the drama and vocal studio at the Ruska Besida Theater in Lviv.

In 1904-1932 he worked in theaters of Western Ukraine. In 1904-1914 and sporadically in 1923-1924 he performed in the opera group of the Ruska Besida Theater. In 1915, he directed the Theater of Miniatures and Satire in Lviv.

He directed his own musical and dramatic troupes: in 1919-1924 - the Ukrainian Theater Company in Kolomyia, from 1929 - the Ukrainian Theater named after Mykhailo Starytskyi in Stryi; he was also a director and soloist in them.

In 1925-1927, he worked at the Ukrainian Theater of Yosyp Standyk.
