Biography

Myroslav Tytovych Korchynskyi was born on July 1, 1941 in the village of Krushelnytsia of Skoliv district, Lviv region. In 1965, he received his first education at the Lviv Conservatory in the accordion class (teacher Anatoly Onufrienko), and in 1969 he graduated from the composition class of Myroslav Skoryk and Stanislav Lyudkevich.

Since 1968, he has been teaching at the Lviv Conservatory at the departments of folk instruments, theory and composition, and orchestral conducting. In 1959-1960, he worked part-time as a bayanist of the song and dance ensemble "Verkhovyna" (Drohobych, Lviv region), taught at the Lviv Cultural and Educational School (1965-1968). Since 1973 - a member of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine, since 1983 - a member of the board of the Lviv organization of the Union of Composers of Ukraine, in 1995-2001 - the head of the Lviv regional branch of the National All-Ukrainian Musical Union.

Winner of the Republican contest for the best song (1987, first prize).

Myroslav Korchynsky initiated the transformation of the traditional pipe into an academic and artistic instrument — the Ukrainian chromatic longitudinal flute (the patent for the invention belongs to Dmytro Deminchuk). The composer chose the right to academize this instrument across the entire educational vertical: from a music school to music institutions of the highest level. The Ukrainian chromatic longitudinal flute (colloquial name — pipe) became the last of a number of traditional instruments that entered the higher educational musical institutions of Ukraine. In comparison with other Ukrainian national instruments (bandura, cymbals), whose classes were opened one after the other in different cities from the beginning of the 20th century, the center of professional flute education, which transmits European performance standards, was established and developed on the basis of Myroslav's own performance school Korchynskyi in Lviv.

In 1971, Myroslav Korchynskyi initiated the creation of an experimental bagpipe class at the Department of Folk Instruments of the Lviv Conservatory named after M. Lysenko, which existed until 1976. In 1980, a special bagpipe class was opened at Lviv Secondary School No. 2. And in 1990, at the Department of Folk Instruments of the Lviv Conservatory named after M. Lysenko, a special class of pipe (soprano, alto, tenor) and frill was re-established.

Myroslav Korchynskyi became the organizer of the first orchestra of Ukrainian folk instruments in the system of musical education (1970), the founder of the first Ukrainian professional pipe ensemble "Dudalis" (1980), now the ensemble of the Lviv National Philharmonic named after M. Skoryk "Virtuoso quartett Dudalis".

Myroslav Korchynskyi is also the initiator of the development of the bass pipe (1990); the creator of a new compositional technique — vertical-polyphonic two-voice, embodied in his Etude-canon and Etude-vocalisis; the author of works in the manner of restorative composition, represented, in particular, by the piece "Partesna Suite" based on examples from the treatise "Musical Grammar" by Mykola Diletskyi, the irmoloi "Let everyone breathe and praise the Lord" (for pipe quintet).

The scientific work of Myroslav Korchynskyi is dedicated to highlighting the history of the Ukrainian longitudinal flute, as well as its understanding as a new element of culture as an academicized instrument. The first fundamental methodological works dedicated to the chromatic longitudinal flute (ten-hole chromatic pipe) belong to the composer.

Among the students: Roman Dverii, Bozhena Korchynska, R. Kubovych, B. Garandja, S. Maksimiv.
