Ukrainian Soviet composer, musicologist and teacher, professor since 1948; member of the Union of Soviet Musicians of Ukraine since 1937.
Biography.
He was born on December 3, 1895 in the city of Odesa (now Ukraine). In 1925, he graduated from the Odesa Conservatory (composition class of Vitold Malyshevsky and Vasyl Zolotaryov).
After receiving his musical education, he became one of the organizers and a teacher at a music school (from 1933 - Odesa Secondary Specialized Music Boarding School named after P. Stolyarskyi). In 1933-1937, he held the position of deputy director. At the same time, since 1932, he taught at the Odesa Conservatory. During the German-Soviet war, from 1941 to 1944, he worked as a teacher and head of the educational department of the Kuibyshev Music School.
From 1944 to 1976, he taught at the Odesa Conservatory again: in 1945-1950, he was the dean of the theory faculty; in 1951-1968, he was the head of the music theory department. Among his students were musicologists V. Shyp, O. Krasotov, V. Alekseev, and Y. Dorfman.
In 1977, he moved to Leningrad, where he died on May 1, 1980.
