Markur Pylypovych Kochubey (late 19th - first half of the 20th century) was a bandura player.
He was born in the family of a wealthy Cossack in the village of Abinsk in the Kuban. He belonged to the ancient Cossack family of Kochubeys, whose descendants moved from Zaporizhzhia to Chornomoria. He was the youngest of six brothers (Dmytro, Pylyp, Ivan the Elder, Ivan the Younger...). All of them had excellent voices and a refined ear. They sang in the church choir. They played in the village brass band. Kochubey was mainly engaged in household music. His favourite song was "Don't beat me, husband, don't punish me". He played directly and sincerely. He improvised easily. He always performed folk dances with variations that he created himself. In the singing society, he could play any Ukrainian folk song.
The family was dekulakised, and the Kochubei brothers were repressed. Vasyl escaped from the settlement in Siberia twice. But he was arrested for the third time. Markur Kochubey's nephew, Volodymyr Kochubey, was also repressed.
