Kitsila Yuriy Vitoldovych

1956-2023

Yuriy Kitsyla (born February 8, 1956, Terebovlia, Ternopil region - died January 28, 2023, Ternopil, Ternopil region) was a Ukrainian composer, performer, arranger, conductor, teacher, member of the National Academy of Arts, member of the National Union of Journalists of Ukraine, Honored Artist of Ukraine (2005). He was awarded the honors of the Mayor of Ternopil, the Order "For Nobility and Charity", the Order "For the Development of Ukraine" (№487 of the All-Ukrainian Association "Krayina").
In 1975, he graduated from the Music Theory Department of Ternopil Music College (diploma with honors, class of teacher Chernov Y.), in 1984 - from the Faculty of History and Theory of Lviv Conservatory (class of teacher, Candidate of Arts Bulka Y.; now the National Music Academy - National Music Academy).

Works as a teacher at the Ternopil Music College. Since September 01, 2019 - the head of the "Musical Art of the Variety".

Every year, since 1995, the concert halls of Ternopil have been hosting Y. Kitsylya's recitals. Twice the composer's recitals were held in Kyiv, in the hall of the National Academy of Music: On March 5, 2012, dedicated to the blessed memory of the poets Volodymyr Vykhrushch and Oleksandr Bilash, and on December 4, 2012, dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Solomiya Krushelnytska. On April 5, 2017, as part of the second international festival of chamber and organ music held in Lviv, Yurii Kitsylya gave a recital "For You Are Blessed and Earthly", which featured vocal lyrics to poems by poet Volodymyr Vykhrushch.

He passed away on January 28, 2023.

He is the author of over 300 songs based on poems by Ukrainian and foreign poets: Volodymyr Vykhrushch, B. Demkiv, Vitaliy Korotych, Yanka Kupala, A. Dymydenko, V. Barna, O. Bilash, M. Supinka, A. Vykhrushch, and others.

He has released 6 CDs, including "I will warm you with a song" (based on the poems of Volodymyr Vykhrushch), "Cosmos" (instrumental suite), "Native House", "Do Good", "Fate", etc.

He wrote cycles of vocal lyrics to poems by poets: V. Vykhrushch - "Because You Are Blessed and Earthly", "From the Love of Springs", O. Bilash - "My Love", V. Barna - "I Sing Your Name".

Instrumental music: "Concert Overture", Concerto for double bass and orchestra, "Adagio" for soprano saxophone and orchestra, "Elegy" for trumpet and orchestra. Cantatas: "My Holy Immortal Ukraine" based on the poem by B. Demkiv, "Christ is Risen!" based on the poem by V. Vykhrushch, ode "Thought about Ukraine" based on the poem by V. Vykhrushch, historical thought "On Khreshchatyk and Hrushevsky" based on the poem by A. Dymydenko. Songs of heroic-patriotic and lyrical themes accompanied by a brass band.

He created concert programs: "My Holy Immortal Ukraine!", "Mother's Love", "Insurgent Glory", "As long as there is a mother", "Immortality of the Soul", "Fate", ""I will warm you with a song", "The Sun of a mother's face", "Song for the Summer", "Let's bow to the Geoghegan", "Do good", "Christ is Risen!".

"Collection of dictations and exercises on auditory analysis" (for students of music schools)
Methodical manual "Psychology of musical dictation".
He is the author of books about outstanding teachers of the Ternopil Music College named after S. Krushelnytska: "Yuriy Maksem: Life with Love", "Music of the Heart Given to Students" (M. Starovetskyi), "Hryhorii Marchenko".
