Kasyanov Vladimir Vasilyevich

1929-1992

Vladimir Vasilyevich Kasyanov (1929-1992) was a conductor, domestique player, and teacher. Professor (1990), Honoured Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1982).

Biography.
Kasyanov was born in 1929 in the village of Setraky (now Rostov Oblast, Russia).

In 1955, he became a laureate of the All-Ukrainian Competition of Performers.

In 1957, he graduated from the Odesa Conservatory (1957; Valentyn Yefremov's domra class, Oleksandra Kasyanova's conducting), where he became a teacher in 1956.

In 1961-1974, he was the head of the Department of Folk Instruments, and in 1988 he became a professor.

In 1975, he became the artistic director and chief conductor of the Odesa Philharmonic Folk Instrument Orchestra. He made a number of arrangements and instrumentations for the orchestra's repertoire. The soloists of the orchestra at that time were M. Ohrenych, H. Polyvanov, A. Boyko, A. Duda, and L. Shyrina.

Volodymyr Kasyanov's students included, in particular, V. Ivko, N. Ksida, D. Orlova, People's Artist of Russia V. Krasnoyartsev.

He died in 1992 in Odesa.

Competitions of performers on folk instruments named after Honoured Artist of Ukraine V. Kasyanov are held.
