Ukrainian pianist, music theorist, critic and composer.
Biography.
He studied piano with M. Tutkovsky. In 1891, he graduated from his class at the Kyiv School of RMT as an external student.
He taught at the Kyiv Music School of M. Tutkovsky.
In the 1920s, he worked at the Kyiv School of Arts.
Since 1891 he collaborated with various Kyiv periodicals.
Since 1908 he was a permanent music critic of the newspaper "Kyivlianyn". Pseudonyms: "A.K.", "K.".
His articles are devoted to the musical life of Kyiv, concerts. They were distinguished by their depth of judgment and progressive views and played a significant role in the development of Ukrainian musical culture.
Oleksandr Kanevtsev is the author of piano pieces and etudes, as well as romances.
He is the author of the Textbook of Elementary Music Theory (1897, 1912).
