Kalabukhin Anatoliy

1930-2022

Anatolii Vasyliovych Kalabukhin (21 June 1930, Luhansk - 30 June 2022) was a Ukrainian conductor and teacher. People's Artist of the Ukrainian SSR (1991), professor.
Biography.
He was born into a family of workers living on the outskirts of Luhansk.

In 1945-1948, he studied at the Luhansk Music School, class of S. Vasyliev's domra.

In 1953, he graduated from the Kharkiv Conservatory as a domra player under the class of N. Lysenko, and studied conducting in the class of K. Doroshenko.

Since 1952, he has been conducting at the Lysenko Kharkiv Opera and Ballet Theatre (since 1952 - assistant conductor, since 1954 - conductor, in 1973-1978 - chief conductor).

In 1968-1973, he was the chief conductor and artistic director of the Kharkiv Philharmonic.

Since 1953, he has been teaching at the Kharkiv Conservatory - Institute of Arts (now the I. P. Kotliarevsky University of Arts), since 1972 - Associate Professor, since 1979 - Professor, in 1979-2019 - Head of the Opera Training Department.

In 1990-2009, he was the head of the Kharkiv branch of the National All-Ukrainian Music Union.

He died on 30 June 2022 at the age of 93.

Wife - Iryna Yatsenko (1945 - 2006) - opera singer, People's Artist of Ukraine, soloist of the Kharkiv Lysenko Opera and Ballet Theatre, Professor of the I. P. Kotliarevskyi Kharkiv University of Arts.
