Izmailov Enver

1955

Ukrainian Crimean Tatar virtuoso guitarist, composer; People's Artist of Ukraine (2009).

He lives in the village of Fontany, Simferopol district (Crimea).

Biography.

Enver Izmailov was born on June 12, 1955 in Fergana (Uzbekistan). He graduated from the Music School of Arts with a degree in bassoon and taught himself to play rock music on electric guitar.

Independently of Western guitarists, Enver Izmailov independently invented the technique of strumming, a technique of playing the guitar with both hands on the neck of the instrument.

In the 1980s, he was a member of the Sato jazz band.

In the early 1990s, during the massive return of Crimean Tatars to their homeland, he moved to the village of Fontany near Simferopol for permanent residence. In Crimea, Izmailov began collecting Crimean Tatar folklore and preparing a number of solo programs in which he embodies his vision of ethno-jazz. At the same time, Enver Izmailov leads a trio organized in 1995 with flutist Narket Ramazanov and drummer Rustem Bari (album "Minaret", 1999). At international festivals, Enver Izmailov performed with Turkish drummer Burhan Ocal, French pianist Xavier Garcia and others. According to the results of a survey conducted by the newspaper "Soviet Youth" (Riga), Enver Izmailov was ranked sixth among the guitarists of the USSR, fifth in the section "Musician of the Year" and second as "Musician who deserves the widest recognition". He is the winner of the first prize at the European International Guitar Competition in Lausanne (Switzerland), as well as many other diplomas and awards.

Since 1995, Enver Izmailov has been a member of the Presidium of the Jazz Association of Ukraine.

In 2009, the artist was awarded the title of People's Artist of Ukraine.

Enver Izmailov is a frequent participant in various music festivals, both in Crimea, at home and abroad - in particular, he has participated in jazz festivals in Poland, Latvia, Russia, Finland, Germany, Norway, France, Italy, Austria, Switzerland, Sweden, Holland, and England. During the Ukrainian-Russian conflict in Crimea, he called for the prevention of bloodshed.
