Valentyn Havrylovych Ivanov (January 21, 1936, Chasiv Yar - April 2008) was a Ukrainian composer, domrist, teacher, and president of the Kharkiv Karaite National Cultural Society "Karai". Honored Worker of Culture of Ukraine (2004). Member of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine (since 1991).
From his creative biography
In 1958, he graduated from the Faculty of Folk Instruments (Domra) of the Kharkiv State Conservatory.

In 1958-1959 he was a teacher at the Chernivtsi Music School.

In 1960-1965, he was the director of the variety ensemble of the Donetsk Regional Philharmonic.

In 1966-1978, he was the head of the musical department of the Kharkiv Theater for Young Spectators.

1976 - graduated from the Faculty of Composition of the Kharkiv Institute of Arts.

In 1979-1989, he was the director of the Orbita folk women's pop orchestra.

Since 1994, he has been the president of the Kharkiv Karaite National Cultural Society "Karai".

In April 2008, V. Ivanov suddenly passed away.

1975 - "Willow Plank" - variations on a theme of a Ukrainian folk song - 4', "Rondo" for viola and piano - 5', "Concertino" for piano and chamber orchestra - 7'.

1976 - "Symphony" - 20' Quartet No. 1 - 5' Quartet No. 2 (Ukrainian) - 12'

1981 - "Concertino" for domra and piano - 6' version with symphony orchestra - 6' "Concertino for accordion and piano - 7'

1982 - "Concertino" for balalaika and piano - 5.5' version with symphony orchestra - 5.5' Pieces for domra and piano: "Ukrainian Dance", "Chelita" (arrangement of folk songs), "Oh, there are two oaks on the mountain" (arrangement), "Let the wind blow to Ukraine" (arrangement), "Old Crimean Haytarma" (arrangement) and others.

1983 - "At the Monument to a Grieving Mother" - a poem for 4 trombones, timpani, percussion and bells - 10' "Concerto" for 3 trumpets and 2 trombones in 3 parts - 15' Piece for 2 trumpets and 2 trombones - "Waltz" - 3' "I was digging a well" (arrangement of a Ukrainian folk song) - 3.5'

1984 - Sonata No. 1 for piano - 5' Sonata No. 2 for piano - 5.5' Sonata No. 3 for piano (jazz) - 6'.

1985 - "Concertino" for alto saxophone and big band - 10' "Sonata" for alto saxophone and piano in 3 parts - 15' "Elegy" (jazz) for trumpet and piano - 5'

1987 - "Polyphonic album for piano based on folk songs - 30'.

1988 - "48 Preludes and Fugues for Piano (Volume 1 - 30, Volume 2 - 45, Volume 3 (jazz) - 40, Volume 4 "Seasons" - 45).

1989 - "Concertino" for baritone and brass band - 6', "March" for brass band - 3'.

1990 - "Poem" for trombone and piano - 5.5' "Poem" for clarinet and piano - 5' "September in Paris" - waltz for symphony orchestra - 5'.

1991 - "Poem" for viola (string) and piano - 7' "Humoresque" for trumpet and piano - 3' "Song and Dance" for trumpet and piano - 4' "Waltz" for clarinet and piano - 3'.

1992 - "Concertino" No. 1 (for children) for piano for 4 hands - 5' version with chamber orchestra - 5' "Concertino" No. 2 (for children) for 2 pianos - 5.5'.

1996 - "Crimean Suite" for piano - 10' "Karaite Suite" for piano - 8' "Melodies of a Karaite Wedding" - a collection of children's pieces for piano.

1997 - "Gulyush-Tota" - a symphonic poem based on a Karaite folk legend.

1999 - "Three Sisters" - a waltz for piano based on the play by Anton Chekhov - 5' version for symphony orchestra.

2000 - "Flowers in Music, Legends and Traditions" - a cycle of children's pieces for piano, piano for 4 hands and ensembles of different composition.

2001 - "Alice in Wonderland" - pieces for piano and piano for 4 hands based on Lewis Carroll's fairy tale - 30 minutes.

2002 - 6 pieces for piano and piano for 4 hands based on stories by Anton Chekhov.

2005 - Opera "Let There Be a Castle" (libretto by M. Vyarvilsky, L. Kukolev, N. Akimova, I. Saratov) in 2 acts, 8 paintings, based on the legend of G. Kvitka-Osnovyanenko "The Foundation of Kharkiv".
