The pianist was born in Lviv. She received a diploma with honours from the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatory (class of V. Hornostayeva), a master's degree from the Mykola Lysenko Lviv National Music Academy (class of O. Kacheva and H. Humetska) and an Artist Diploma from the Glenn Gould School of the Royal Conservatory of Toronto (class of D. Perry).
Winner of the Galaxie Award of the Canadian National Broadcasting Company, the Debut Young Artist Award, the title of Best Young Musician of the Year in the genre of classical music in Canada (2004), a diploma of the Calgary Honours Competition (2003), prizes at the Tchaikovsky and Diaghilev Young Musicians' Competitions in Moscow, B. Dvarionas in Vilnius, etc.
She has participated in many music festivals in Eastern and Western Europe, Canada, and the USA, including the Rheingau Festival in Germany, the Kuhmo Festival in Finland, the Tibor Varga Festival in Switzerland, and Music at the Institute in New York and Chicago, "Niagara Chamber Music and Saundaxis in Canada, Music Biennial in Zagreb, Timisoara Muzicala in Romania, Virtuosos, Contrasts, Szymanowski Quartet and Friends in Lviv, Chamber Music Sessions and Kyiv-Music-Fest in Kyiv, Bach-Fest in Sumy, Stravinsky and Ukraine in Lutsk.
In recent years, the Ukrainian pianist has participated in many musical projects: "Music Around Us" on CBC Radio 2 in Toronto, "French Spring" in Ukraine, "Expressions and Impressions", "Music and Wine", "Fantasy Evening", "Piano Marathon" in the Lviv Philharmonic. Concert programmes with the Les AMIS ensemble: "LOVE: Innocence, Passion, Obsession", "Romanian Premieres", "Les AMIS de Xenakis", etc. were performed in Canada, Ukraine and during the ensemble's European tours.
The artist's Ukrainian-Polish programmes deserve special attention: projects related to the figure of I. Paderewski; a series of concerts dedicated to the Day of Europe in Ukraine; a series of concerts "Music of K. Szymanowski"; Lviv Days in Krakow; and the international festival "Discovering Paderewski". In May 2014, in the Presidential Palace in Warsaw, M. Humetska received an honorary award - the Knight's Cross of the Order of Merit for Poland from the President of the Republic of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski. In July 2014, she presented a programme of Paderewski's works in a recital at the Marcelina Sembrich-Kohansky Festival in the United States, and together with Canadian violinist Lynn Kuo she presented a CD entitled "LOVE", recorded at the Gould Studio CBC in Toronto.
The pianist actively collaborates with other musicians and orchestras. Among her creative partners in recent years are the Penderecki and Aviv Quartets, Victoria Lukyanets, Jerzy Maksymiuk, Anna Maria Jopek, Lynn Kuo, Thomas Zanderling, Gary Kulesha, Vladimir Sirenko, Rachel Mercer, Grażyna Auguszcik and others. Performances with orchestras: State Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine (National Symphony Orchestra of Ukraine), London Soloists, Russian National Orchestra, Festival Orchestra of the Canadian Arts Centre, Canadian Symphony and the Royal Conservatory Orchestra in Toronto, Thirteen Strings Orchestra in Ottawa, Filarmonica Banatul (Romania), Geminiani Orchestra (Italy), Academic Youth Symphony Orchestra "INSO-Lviv", Academic Symphony Orchestras of Lviv and Luhansk Philharmonic, Chamber Orchestra "Virtuosos of Lviv" and others.
The artistic director of the International Music Festival "Discovering Paderewski", pianist M. Humetska is a co-author of the idea of its creation and annually takes an active part in the festival's music programmes as a soloist and member of the PADEREWSKI Award Committee.
