Gubanov Yakov Ivanovich

Hubanov Yakiv Ivanovych (born January 8, 1954, Kyiv) is a Ukrainian composer and art critic. Candidate of Arts (1983). Member of the National Union of Composers of Ukraine.
He graduated from the Faculty of Composition of the Kyiv Conservatory (1976, class of A. Shtogarenko) and the postgraduate course at the Moscow Conservatory (1978, class of O. Pirumov).

Since 1979, he has been a senior lecturer, and since 1987, an associate professor at the Department of Music Theory of the Kyiv Conservatory.

In 1983, he defended his PhD thesis ("Architectonics and Proceduralism of Shostakovich's Harmony", supervised by N. Horyukhina).

In the 1990s, he lectured on contemporary music at the Tel Aviv Academy of Music. He did an internship in England.

He lives and works in Boston (USA)[1].

Author of the music for M. Mashchenko's film "Paris Drama" (1983)[2].
