Vladimir Petrovich Guba (born December 22, 1938, Kyiv, Ukrainian SSR, USSR - December 3, 2020, Kyiv, Ukraine) was a Soviet and Ukrainian composer. People's Artist of Ukraine (1999). Laureate of the Lysenko Prize (1997), Laureate of the Oleksandr Dovzhenko State Prize of Ukraine (2014). Member of the National Unions of Composers and Cinematographers of Ukraine.
He was born on December 22, 1938 in Kyiv to a family of teachers.
In 1977, he graduated from the Tchaikovsky Kyiv Conservatory (class of B. Liatoshynskyi and A. Shtoharenko).
He worked as a music teacher at music schools, music editor at the State Television and Radio of the Ukrainian SSR. He was the music editor of the Ukrkinokhronika studio. Films with his music were awarded prestigious awards at domestic and foreign film festivals (Sweden, France, and Italy).
He is a member of the following unions:
National Union of Composers of Ukraine (1977),
National Union of Cinematographers of Ukraine (1970),
Creative Union "Cinematography of Slavic Peoples".
He was also a member of the boards of the Memorial, Ukraine-Israel, and Forster Bridge organizations (Germany).
He died on December 3, 2020 in Kyiv.
Filmography.
Author of the music for the play Hetman Doroshenko based on the work of I. Starytska-Cherniakhivska at the Ivan Franko National Ukrainian Academic Drama Theater (directed by Volodymyr Opanasenko). The play was nominated for the Taras Shevchenko National Prize of Ukraine.
On May 29, 2020, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko gave the Last Bell for graduates and presented a video in which the monuments sing "Old Kyiv Romance" written by V. Huba for the film Grandfather of the Left (1973)[1].
