Volodymyr Hridyn was a Ukrainian composer and pianist.
He was born on January 8, 1893 in Kyiv. He died on November 14, 1980 in Philadelphia (USA).
He graduated from the Odesa (1921, piano and conducting class of Y. Pribik) and Kyiv (composition class of R. Glier) Conservatories. He taught music theory in Odesa. During the occupation, he moved to Kyiv[1].
After World War II, he lived in Prague, Paris, New York, and Philadelphia.
Works: Ballet Ala in the Mirror (after L. Karol); Symphony Part 1; 2 symphonic suites; Symphonic poem Dream; 2 piano concertos; bow quartet op. 8 2 poems for violin and piano; exotic poem for violin and piano; preludes, etudes, fantasy for piano; vocal works to the words of Taras Shevchenko, Ivan Franko, L. Ukrainka, O. Oles, V. Sosiura and others; music for the animated film The Arrogant Chicken (1936).
