Gromysh Oleksandr Yakovych

1950-2016

Ukrainian opera singer, bass, People's Artist of Ukraine.
Biography.

He was born in the village of Luka, Zolochiv district, Lviv region.

In 1967-1969 he studied at the Lutsk Music School of Choral Conducting. In 1971, after serving in the army, he entered the vocal faculty of the Mykola Lysenko Lviv State Conservatory. He studied in the class of People's Artist of the USSR P. Karmalyuk.

In 1976, he graduated from the conservatory and began his career at the Ivan Franko Lviv Academic Opera and Ballet Theater (now the Solomiya Krushelnytska Lviv National Academic Opera and Ballet Theater). He performed the roles of Moses in Skoryk's opera Moses, Ivan Karas in Gulak-Artemovsky's Cossacks Beyond the Danube, Vasyl Sobakin in Rimsky-Korsakov's The Tsar's Bride, and René in Tchaikovsky's Iolanthe, Rampheus in Verdi's Aida, Don Basilio in Rossini's Barber of Seville, Angelotti in Puccini's Floria Tosca, Monterone and Sparafucile in Verdi's Rigoletto, and Zacharias in Verdi's Nabucco.

He has performed on the stages of Switzerland, Austria, Germany, France, Denmark, Luxembourg, Hungary, and Poland.

In 1988, he was awarded the title of Honored Artist of Ukraine, and in 2002 - People's Artist of Ukraine.

In 2003, he released a CD "Oleksandr Hromysh Sings" with recordings of arias and songs from operas.

He was buried in field 68 of the Lychakiv Cemetery.
