Grigorievich-Barsky Vladimir

1878-1926

Volodymyr Petrovych Hryhorovych-Barskyi (b. 14.06.1878, Kyiv - d. after 1926) was a Ukrainian composer, pianist and music teacher.

Biography.
He was born on 14 June 1878 in Kyiv (now Ukraine). His parents were a merchant Petro Hryhorovych-Barskyi and Sofia Ludwigivna (née Berenstam), the sister of a well-known public figure, a member of the "Hromada", William Berenstam.

In 1901, he graduated from the Kyiv Music School of the Russian Musical Society, where he studied in the class of Volodymyr Pukhalskyi; in 1906, he graduated from the Leipzig Conservatory.

He began his artistic career in Germany. In 1907, he returned to Kyiv, and from 1909 to 1914, he owned and taught music courses. In 1914-1918, he was a professor at the Petrograd People's Conservatory. In 1918, he returned to Kyiv and taught piano at the M. Jacobi-Pavlovich Music School and the School of Arts. He died after 1926.

His wife Kateryna Andriivna was a German teacher at the L.E. Bratkova Women's Gymnasium.
