Yaroslav Mykolaiovych Horbal (born 19 July 1954, Esaulske village, Kemerovo region, Russian Federation) is a conductor of military and civilian orchestras, teacher, Honoured Artist of Ukraine.
He was born on 19 July 1954 in the village of Esaulske, Kemerovo region. From 1971 to 1975 he studied at the Drohobych Music College. In 1976, he entered the Faculty of Military Conductors at the Tchaikovsky Moscow Conservatoire. After graduation, he worked as a band director/military conductor in military units in several districts. In 1993-2005, he was the Head of the Military Conducting Department of the Lviv Military Institute of the Army at Lviv Polytechnic National University, the only institution in the country that trains musicians for military bands. In 1998, he was awarded the honorary title of Honoured Artist of Ukraine[1]. Y. Horbal is a laureate of a number of competitions and festivals. Since 2006, he has been teaching part-time at the Mykola Lysenko National Music Academy in the Department of Orchestral Conducting and Reading at the orchestral conducting classes. Since 2011, he has been conducting the brass band of the Lviv Polytechnic National University.
