Holovnia Havrylo Matviyovych (1706, Hlukhiv - †2 January 1786, the same place) was a Ukrainian singer, classical partes art, and religious figure of the Hetmanate. He was a student and son-in-law of Musii Buhaievskyi, a choral conductor from Hlukhiv.
Biography.
Holovnia Havrylo was born in Hlukhiv. From 1738 he was a singer at the Court Singing Chapel in St. Petersburg. He had a wonderful voice (bass). He was a connoisseur and promoter of perthes singing.
In August 1742, he was selecting singers for the chapel in Ukraine (H. Skovoroda was among them).
Later, Havrylo Holovnia became a priest of St Anastasius Church in Hlukhiv. It is no exaggeration to say that Golovnya made an invaluable contribution to Ukrainian culture. In 1766, it was he who created the musical "Irmologion" and the "Manual for Beginning Singers", which were reviewed and approved by the Holy Synod. These works marked the beginning of music publishing in Russia. G. Holovnya's "Irmologii" is a systematic liturgical collection of hymns for eight voices of the Kyivan chant. The publication also contains the author's work entitled "The Beginning of the Knowledge of the Notes of the Irmological Simple Penitential", written in 1752.
