Godzyatsky Vitaliy Oleksiyovych

Vitalii Oleksiiovych Hodziatskyi (born December 29, 1936) is a Ukrainian composer, Honored Artist of Ukraine (1996), Laureate of the Lyatoshynskyi Prize. Member of the NSCU.

He was born in Kyiv. He graduated from the Kyiv Conservatory in 1961 with a degree in composition from B. Liatoshynsky. He taught music theory at Vinnytsia Music College (1961-1963), music schools in Kyiv (1963-74 and since 1982). Musical director of the pop ensemble of the Dovzhenko Cinema (1975-1982).
He received his primary musical education at home under the guidance of his mother. He learned to play the piano and studied music theory in parallel with his secondary school studies. He composed music on his own.

In 1956-1961, he studied at the Tchaikovsky Kyiv State Conservatory in the class of B. Liatoshynskyi.

He is a composer of the sixties. In 1960-1970, he was a member of the so-called Kyiv Avant-Garde, a group of young composers led by conductor Ihor Blazhkov, whose members studied music of the 20th century, their creative principles differed from the ideological and aesthetic attitudes of official Soviet music.

In parallel with his composing work, he taught. In 1961-1963, he taught music theory at the Vinnytsia Music School, and in 1963-1974 - at music schools in Kyiv.

In 1970, V. Hodziatsky was expelled from the Union of Composers of the USSR, and the performance of his works was actually banned.

In 1975-1982, he was the director of the pop orchestra of the Dovzhenko Cinema of the Kyiv Association of Musical Ensembles.

Currently, he teaches at the Children's Music School No. 27 (since 1982).
